Man dies after fall from Shell oil platform
AN OFFSHORE worker has died in the North Sea after going over the side of Shell's Brent Delta platform, about 117 miles north east of Shetland.
The man, a Wood Group employee, has not been named but concerned families have been asked to contact Wood Group’s relative response line on (01224) 851000.
A major operation was launched after the Wood Group employee was reported missing from Shell's Brent Delta.
Three helicopters, including an Aberdeen-based craft, were involved in the air search and cover was being provided by a Nimrod aircraft from RAF Kinloss.
A dive boat, which was near the Brent Delta when the alarm was raised, co-ordinated the surface operation.
The man was reported missing from the Brent Delta platform at 11.30am yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen Coastguard said seven vessels scoured the water near the Brent Delta.
A remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) on board the support vessel Toisa Polaris searched underwater.
The spokeswoman said the man’s body was found by the ROV pilot near the Brent Delta platform’s legs at about 2pm.
The man, was last seen around 10.30am but could not be found when a roll call was carried out.
