£20,000 fine for printer
Colpac Ltd of Flitwick, Beds, and two of its directors have been fined for a number of infringements of safety law in August 2008.
A 20-year old female employee attempting to retrieve a carton blocking a window-patching machine caught her arm between two rollers, suffered bruising and cuts to her left arm.
During the investigation of the incident a number of other safety issues resulted in 5 prohibition and 4 improvement notices.
The company was fined £17,000 for breaching S.2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, £3,000 for breaching r.11 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, plus £5,129 costs.
Its operations director admitted breaching S.2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was fined £3,000, a manager admitted breaching S.7 of the same Act and was fined £800.
