Chair of Health and Safety Executive Welcomes Review
Health and Safety law and practice, an organization involved in enforcing health and safety standards in the work place welcomed the review initiative by Prime Minister David Cameron.
The Prime Minister has asked Lord Young of Graffham to review the unlawful practices followed by business enterprises under the cover of health and safety laws.
Ms. Judith Heckitt, Chair of Health and Safety Executive (HSE), said that the HSE has found many instances where the decisions taken for wrong reasons are blamed on health and safety law and practice. The organization has been campaigning on the issue since 2007 through the myths of the month campaign. The campaign exposed wrong decisions that in the pretext of health and safety of the workers.
In her letter to Lord Young, she offered wholehearted cooperation to the review. She said that the HSE has limitations since its authority is to deal only with health and safety issues of workers within their work place or related to work. Review on the other hand will look into issues related to compensation in addition to the health and safety law and practice.
Lord Young will complete the review by this summer and report to the Prime Minister. The review report will have a direct impact on the lives of the millions of workers in the country.
